Artificial Intelligence Took My Job

Everyone is wondering if AI is going to replace their job. If they are not asking, they are certainly being bombarded by so-called “experts” claiming that their job is in jeopardy. In truth, everyone’s job is in danger of being eliminated by AI. That’s a good thing.

Since the beginning of civilization technological progress has eliminated jobs. We no longer make fire by rubbing two sticks together. Matches eliminated that job. Potatoes are no longer peeled by hand to make French fries at restaurants. We have machines for that. Harvesting wheat is no longer done by hand with a sickle.

Every one of these jobs was eliminated and we still have new jobs to do and are busier then ever. We no longer work sun up to sun down six days a week doing backbreaking work. We have more leisure time to spend with family and take vacations. All because we eliminated jobs. Eliminating jobs didn’t make us less productive; we are now more productive.

Eliminating jobs didn’t increase unemployment; we now have more people working today than at any time in history. Will your job be eliminated? Absolutely. History tells us that.

Ask yourself this question: Do you really want to do the same job for the next 30 or 40 years? Henry Ford learned when he created the assembly line that doing the same job day in and day out was monotonous. Ford had an incredible turnover with employees quitting his mind-numbing assembly lines.

Businesses by nature must grow and improve to stay competitive. If they don’t, someone will see that complacency and fill the void. That is when a business closes and then everyone is out of a job. So what should you do if you think your job will be replaced by AI? Look for other opportunities where your skills can be used to enhance AI within the organization.

Employees in the auto industry started to be replaced by robots. That didn’t end employment in the car factories. Young people are coming out of college with degrees in automobile design and electrification. AI didn’t replace the internal combustion engine, a young South African did. It’s not whether AI will replace your job, it’s when. It’s simply progress and it is up to you to fill the void left by that progress.
